On this blog, you’ll learn about Matthew + Chantal’s intimate wedding day, what made it special, and learn our favorite parts of the day! Matthew + Chantal are such a cute couple, and poor Chantal was put through the ringer with planning her wedding during the pandemic. The date and location were changed multiple times, and the wedding went from a large wedding, to an intimate wedding, to a family only wedding, and from a backyard wedding, to a garden wedding, back to a backyard wedding! Ultimately the couple decided to focus on the importance of the marriage itself, and to try and plan a large celebration after the chaos of the pandemic calms down.
So they ended up having a backyard ceremony at Matthew’s parents house, which ended up being great because one side of the yard had a gazebo for the ceremony, and the other side was wide open to set up a small but beautiful reception area.
After the ceremony, we took a short drive to Downtown Lakeland, for couples portraits, wedding party photos, and family photos. Since Matthew recently graduated from Firefighting school, Chantal contacted the head of the Lakeland Fire Department to get permission to take some couples photos there. It was an awesome surprise for Matthew to be able to take wedding pictures in front of their biggest truck on site! We really wanted to get either the color of the truck, or some identifying mark of the truck in every picture that we took there in order to take full advantage of the fact that we got to take pics in front of it!
From the fire station we walked to the other side of Lake Mirror for family, wedding party, and more couples photos. The massive archways, fully shaded area, and texture from the big bridge we took pics by were a perfect complement for the pictures!
Before we knew it, it was time to head back for the reception! There was amazing food catered by Mission BBQ, and they did a beautiful job setting up and decorating the food station!
Matthew and Chantal decided to forgo a formal exit from their reception, and instead opted to have their family and friends encircle them on the dance floor, surrounding them with sparklers for a dance. Although this is only an option if you have an outdoor reception, but the photos from it are amazing, and its a perfect balance to still get those fun sparkler photos without having to do a formal send off!
